Lori Rosolowsky: Music

A Mile to Cry

(Lori Rosolowsky)
This is a true story. Hardly any words have been changed.
Mommy, don’t make me go to camp today
Let me stay home with you
I’ll try again another day.
Tennis was all right but three feet of water is
Too deep to be in
Besides, I already know how to swim.

Mommy, don’t leave me here at camp today
Look up, I think I see a cloud
I’m sure it’s gonna rain.
There goes my group, we’re too late Mommy, don’t you see?
Walk with me, stay with me, pick me up early.
I need a mile, I cannot smile
I need a mile to cry.

Mommy, I’m okay.
And with those words from my child, I turned and walked away
Under the cloudless skies
My tears caught me by surprise.
I walked awhile, more than a mile
So I could smile and cry.
