Immortality
(Lori Rosolowsky)
For miles on the Canadian Rockies bicycle trip, my only companions were a glacier, its rivers, and a mountain ridge called the Endless Chain. That was plenty.
My breath is deepening and my heart’s beating faster
I wake Mother Nature and I pedal past her
And though I know I won’t outlast her
I know I’m gonna try.
My lungs are filled and my eyes are tearing
I cut the still with the wind I’m shearing
I warm the chill as the fog is clearing
I think that I can fly.
Some walk, some hike, some run, but I will bike
Past the rocks from millenia too numerous to count
Some walk, some hike, some run, but I will bike
Past the glacier and her rivers as I climb this mount.
I’m racing through time that is geologic
Aware that mine is just biologic
But on this cycle I feel the magic
The possibility
That I could keep going though my legs are burning
My spirit is willing to keep these wheels turning
Nature has given me the yearning
For immortality.
